Summary

Six of Crows meets Graceling with a dash of Winter is Coming in Katy Rose Pool's second installment of the action-packed and swoon-worthy Age of Darkness series--As the Shadow Rises

"As the Shadow Rises solidifies Katy Rose Pool's status as one of the best fantasy writers of the 21st century。" Popsugar

The Last Prophet has been found, yet he sees destruction ahead。

In this sequel to the critically-acclaimed There Will Come a Darkness, kingdoms have begun to fall to a doomsday cult, the magical Graced are being persecuted, and an ancient power threatens to break free。 But with the world hurtling toward its prophesized end, Anton’s haunting vision reveals the dangerous beginnings of a plan to stop the Age of Darkness。

As Jude, Keeper of the Order of the Last Light, returns home in disgrace, his quest to aid the Prophet is complicated by his growing feelings for Anton。 Meanwhile, the assassin known as the Pale Hand will stop at nothing to find her undead sister before she dies for good, even if it means letting the world burn。 And in Nazirah, Hassan, the kingdom-less Prince, forms a risky pact to try to regain his throne。 When the forces of light and darkness collide in the City of Mercy, old wounds are reopened, new alliances are tested, and the end of the world begins。

The Age of Darkness trilogy is perfect for fans of Throne of GlassChildren of Blood and Bone, and An Ember in the Ashes

* "Adventurous relic-hunting, mind-blowing twists, budding love, and terrible betrayals feature in this multiple-narrator, character-driven study of power, agency, and identity。" —Kirkus Reviewsstarred review

4,3 stars。 Color me surprised, this sequel just blew my socks off。 I didn’t have a lot of expectations when starting it so imagine my surprise when everything that I had issues with (although that is a strong word) was resolved from page one。 Now that we got the introduction out of the way, and we knew some of the world building, plot and characters, the second book just took it to a whole other level。 We get non stop action from page one, traveling in search of artifacts (we all know I love thi 4,3 stars。 Color me surprised, this sequel just blew my socks off。 I didn’t have a lot of expectations when starting it so imagine my surprise when everything that I had issues with (although that is a strong word) was resolved from page one。 Now that we got the introduction out of the way, and we knew some of the world building, plot and characters, the second book just took it to a whole other level。 We get non stop action from page one, traveling in search of artifacts (we all know I love this trope) character growth and said characters meeting along the way, revealing a bigger role in the whole plot。 I really really enjoyed this second book and hope the conclusion is just as spectacular! 。。。more

A stunning sequel to There Will Come a Darkness。 You know how some series, whether they be books, movies, or TV shows, will get a sequel and you can just tell that the writers didn't plan for it or if they did they did so very poorly? This is EASILY my favorite series! 。。。more

Oh man! This book was such a good sequel to the first book! This one follows the same 5 characters, and honestly there is hardley any interaction between the characters。 The characters all seperate after the first book except jude and Anton。 Honestly i really enjoyed this one so much, and for the most part loved seeing all the of the characters develop on this one。 Hassan was the only one i wasnt a huge fan of, mostly because his story seemed more like the plot was happening to him, and i hate w Oh man! Anton and Jude where the only two together throughout the whole series, and i honestly love them so much together! the friendship which turns into something more, and the trust between them is just the absolute best! they have been my favorite chapters to read this whole book! Beru- with Hector and honestly her chapters where a bit slow at the beginning, but full of agnst, and i loved getting to know more about the Esha and how it really effects things。 as the story continues there are some major twits and turns with her chapters, and they are so good! Ephyra- There was a bit of a boring journey montage at the beginning, she is trying to find the chalice, but her chapters pick up super quick and i was here for the necromancy! honestly i wish there was more of it!! You find out more about the chalice and the 4 relics and what they really mean in this book, and meet some very interesting characters! (view spoiler)[ the NECROMANCY KING?! i was so socked and amazed about this twist, and then nothing happened with him, and he almost just died immediately! such a disappointment! i am very sad it didnt end up more! Also, im super sad that Ephyra didnt do more with the chalice when she had it! i was expecting so so much more with the necromancy, and it didnt amount to much。 (hide spoiler)] 。。。more

I read this book in 4 days which I hope proves to you how good it is。 Perhaps because I love anything fantasy and magic, every chapter completely captured my attention and I couldn't put it down。 The way the characters develop and change is incredible and the story itself is great。 If you read the first one, read this one。 It's one of the few pieces of media where I can say the sequel was better。 Needless to say, I anxiously wait for the third book to arrive so I can continue to read the great s I read this book in 4 days which I hope proves to you how good it is。 Perhaps because I love anything fantasy and magic, every chapter completely captured my attention and I couldn't put it down。 The way the characters develop and change is incredible and the story itself is great。 If you read the first one, read this one。 It's one of the few pieces of media where I can say the sequel was better。 Needless to say, I anxiously wait for the third book to arrive so I can continue to read the great stories Katy Rose Pool makes :) 。。。more

This book was just as entertaining as book one。 Many second books in series are more like fillers where nothing really happens, but it was not the case for this one。 The plot advances quite a lot and we get many important revelations throughout the book。The constant change in POVs doesn’t bother me。 I believe all of them are needed, even if some of them are less appealing to read。 I love Anton and Jude。 I find myself intrigued by Ilia’s real motivations。 Ephyra…I can’t say I like her。 I think sh This book was just as entertaining as book one。 Many second books in series are more like fillers where nothing really happens, but it was not the case for this one。 The plot advances quite a lot and we get many important revelations throughout the book。The constant change in POVs doesn’t bother me。 I believe all of them are needed, even if some of them are less appealing to read。 I love Anton and Jude。 I find myself intrigued by Ilia’s real motivations。 Ephyra…I can’t say I like her。 I think she is very selfish and I haven’t seen much character growth from her。 I found Hassan boring when he was with Kepri, but I really like him in the later parts of the books。 Beru…I’m not sure。 Hector I like。I’m very much looking forward to the last book。 。。。more

I don’t know what’s wrong with me。 I gave the first book 5 stars。 I reread some of it so I could start the second book and I didn’t really give a crap about either book。 😕 I’m going to unhaul my hardbacks。 I still have the kindle editions I got in a sale but I really don’t know if I’m going to read the final book。 And even when I 5 Star a book lately, I’m not happy。 I’m wondering if I’m just going to get rid of everything sometimes。 I’m just not happy with anything any more。 I just don’t know。 M I don’t know what’s wrong with me。 I gave the first book 5 stars。 I reread some of it so I could start the second book and I didn’t really give a crap about either book。 😕 I’m going to unhaul my hardbacks。 I still have the kindle editions I got in a sale but I really don’t know if I’m going to read the final book。 And even when I 5 Star a book lately, I’m not happy。 I’m wondering if I’m just going to get rid of everything sometimes。 I’m just not happy with anything any more。 I just don’t know。 Mel 🖤🐶🐺🐾 。。。more

I love that we see Ephyra become more and more drawn into darkness, while Hassan makes choices that are wrong but still understandable from his POV (even though it doesn’t make it justified)。 Beru as a character became much more interesting, and I found myself loving her chapters。 Of course, Jude and Anton are the most beloved in my opinion! Every moment they spent together was beautiful, and their chemistry is undeniable! I don’t know how I’ll wait a month for the next entry, but I am so excited for it! So far, this is the best series of books I’ve ever read!PS: Small spoilers here, but my favorite part of the book was Jude finally realizing that Anton’s faith in him was enough for him to unsheath the Pinnacle Blade。 The wording in that scene was phenomenal and made my Janton heart so happy!! 。。。more

3。5 rounded up to a 4--other reviewers were entirely correct in saying that this book was carried by the jude and anton POV chapters。 the others were fine, but i found myself a little bored (and maybe a tiny bit annoyed) by the hassan chapters specifically, which is a bummer since i enjoyed him a lot in the first book。 i think his whole conflict with arash and company just felt out of place or maybe just underdeveloped compared to the rest of the plotlines in the book。this would have been a 3 st 3。5 rounded up to a 4--other reviewers were entirely correct in saying that this book was carried by the jude and anton POV chapters。 the others were fine, but i found myself a little bored (and maybe a tiny bit annoyed) by the hassan chapters specifically, which is a bummer since i enjoyed him a lot in the first book。 i think his whole conflict with arash and company just felt out of place or maybe just underdeveloped compared to the rest of the plotlines in the book。this would have been a 3 star if i hadn't been so invested in the jude and anton storyline。 overall, though, still enjoyable, and i'm looking forward to the finale! 。。。more
